This reading puts everything together. All this information will be very helpful as I gain more confidence with programs to create a website. It also reinforces for me that I am still new to the understanding of how computer software and hardware work and how the internet connection can effect everything. In regards to computers, I am self-taught. The basic information provided here offers definitions and examples for me that I never attached to things before. Thad Brown's discussion of wave forms and bandwidth explained some issues that I had experienced in the past with sound and video files. There is so much more to know about. I look forward to creating a site that will benefit my students and their parents.

It's interesting that in most of the research that's been conducted on how music teachers have acquired their technological knowledge and skills, being "self-taught" comes out on top. I think that over time, as more teachers experience classes like this one during their graduate or undergraduate degrees, that may change. But, because of the rate of change with technology, it really is important for the individual to learn on their own if s/he is to remain current.
